Bring it Back!: Women’s Tag Team Titles |

Categorized under WWE.com |

Twice the beauty, twice the fun beckons for twice the championship run. WWE.com calls for the return of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles.
In more than any other type of match WWE has to offer, the Divas have showcased their tremendous abilities in tag team action – an arena in which they have excelled time and time again. It stands to reason that since they are taking such an active role in this particular level of competition, there should be championship gold in place for which to compete.
Moreover, today’s Diva duos have a greater opportunity to take that title to unprecedented new heights. It’s true that WWE Hall of Famers like The Fabulous Moolah, Wendi Richer and Sensational Sherri helped defined the ’80s – the era when the Women’s Tag Team Title was last active – and set the stage for the current crop of in-ring femme fatales.
Yet despite the incredible ability and influence of these past elites among the singles ranks, they never had a strong enough group of female competitors at their side that would allow the Women’s Tag Team Titles to build a true legacy.
This roadblock to greatness certainly does not exist today – an era in which numerous Diva pairings have proven to be just as effective as their male counterparts where tandem excellence is concerned.
Without question, Beth Phoenix & Natalya have exhibited a spirit of dominance similar to that of Demolition, The Bella Twins the tag team savvy of the Hart Foundation and Kelly Kelly & Eve the explosive charisma of current WWE Tag Team Champions “Air Boom.”
By throwing such a grand prize like the Women’s Tag Team Titles back into play, WWE would add a crucial dimension to today’s Divas picture, raising the stakes on their matches overall while adding to their stunning nature that has captivated the WWE Universe over the years.
WWE, the time has come to bring back the Women’s Tag Team Championship.

WWE debuts new set for live events |

Categorized under WWE.com |

WWE has created a new entrance set for non-televised live events that captures the feel of WWE’s outstanding television productions of Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown.
Measuring 20 feet high and 40 feet wide, the spectacular new set weighs more than a ton and fills an entire tractor trailer from back to front and top to bottom. It is comprised of thousands of LEDs (light-emitting diodes) and requires more than four hours of set-up time before each live event. To fully deliver an experience similar to that seen every week on WWE’s television productions, the three sets (Raw, SmackDown and one backup) were an investment of more than 1.5 million dollars.
The new set was introduced at both the Raw and SmackDown live events between Christmas and New Year’s Day. WWE.com was on hand in WWE’s home state capital of Hartford, Conn. for the final Raw live event of 2011, where the new set garnered reactions to from our Superstars, Divas and most importantly, you … our fans.

We see the Divas walking backstage before the match starts. Alicia pins Beth with her flipping somersault legdrop after countering Beth’s slingshot suplex. It appears Fox injured Beth as Beth was seen crawling from the ring with a knot on her eye.

WWE Divas Title Match: Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix
We go to the ring and out comes Divas Champion Beth Phoenix followed by her opponent Kelly Kelly. Apparently Kelly got this match for winning the Divas Slammy. They have words to start the match. Beth misses a slap and Kelly slaps her. Beth ends up outside on the floor. Kelly leaps from the apron and slams Beth’s face into the floor.
Kelly applies a submission on the ropes and keeps on with the offense. Beth turns things around in the corner and slams Kelly to the mat. Beth unloads with stomps, punches and elbows to the back. Beth with a 2 count. Beth stands on Kelly and the bottom rope now. Beth slams Kelly on the back of her head and puts her in a submission. Beth continues but Kelly counters with a bulldog. Kelly goes crazy on Beth and climbs to the second rope. Beth catches her in mid-air and slams for a 2 count. Beth with another 2 count and a third pin attempt.
Beth with more right hands before climbing to the top rope. Beth misses a big leg drop as Kelly rolls out of the way. Beth counters Kelly’s leg drop and goes for the Glam Slam. Kelly blocks it with a roll up for 2. Beth with another roll up. Beth catches Kelly on her shoulders and slams her face first with a version of the Electric Chair. Beth crawls over and covers for the win.
Winner: Beth Phoenix

Divas Champion Beth Phoenix, Natalya, and the Bella Twins vs Kelly Kelly, Alicia Fox, Eve, and Maria Menounos
The heels isolated Eve building to a hot tag to Kelly. The action broke down before Maria tagged into the match and Beth stopped her in her tracks. Beth shoved Maria into the corner, but Maria avoided a corner attack and scored with a sunset flip. It was good for a quick three count that shocked everyone. Maria sold shock as well before the faces celebrated in the ring and Phoenix retreated to the floor with Natalya.
Winners: Maria Menounos, Kelly Kelly, Alicia Fox, and Eve

Who was snubbed at the 2011 Slammy Awards? |

Categorized under WWE.com |

Not everyone goes home happy after the Slammy Awards. Or if you’re Beth Phoenix, you go home in shock with a red slap mark across your face, courtesy of Kelly Kelly.
The Glamazon didn’t even give Kelly a chance to relish her award for Divalicious Moment of the Year before trying unsuccessfully to swipe the Slammy out of her hands on Monday night. She felt she deserved it, envelope be damned.
Well, guess what? She did deserve it.
Phoenix isn’t the only one who has legitimate beef over leaving empty-handed, though. By our count, there were five Slammy Awards that could have feasibly gone another way in the voting. That includes Superstar of the Year, which the WWE Universe bestowed upon CM Punk.
With that said, it’s time to take a case-by-case look at the snubs of the 2011 Slammys. In other words, who has reason to complain about being passed up for awards? And whether you agree or disagree with our selections, be sure to lend your voice to the snub debate on our Facebook page.
Divalicious Moment of the Year | Snub: Beth Phoenix
As much as it was a terrific 2011 for Kelly Kelly, let’s face facts: the Divas Championship changes hands multiple times every year. Winning the title with a victory roll over Brie Bella arguably doesn’t give it award-worthy oomph. But what The Glamazon is managing to do in the ring redefines the WWE Universe’s expectations for a Divas match. The Survivor Series crowd was floored by Beth’s top rope Glam Slam, a maneuver that looks devastating enough on its own. While we’re at it, Natalya’s double Sharpshooter also had more “wow” factor as a Divalicious moment. Long live the “pin-up strong” movement.

Instead of doing a “Diva of the Year” award, WWE decided to do a “Divalicious Moment of the Year” award, and Beth was nominated in the category for her “Glam Slam” off the top rope to Eve at Survivor Series. She didn’t get the win, as Kelly won for her first Divas title win. Lita annouced Kelly as the winner and as Kelly came out for her acceptance speech, Beth and Natalya interrupted, and Beth snatched the Slammy award. Kelly slapped Beth, and took her Slammy away, as Lita raised Kelly’s hand as Beth and Natalya walked away.

We see tag team action tonight as Divas Champion teams up with her fellow Sister of Salvation, Natalya, to take on the team of Kelly and Eve, with Alicia Fox ringside. We see a video package of the Divas of Doom, but it’s interrupted in the middle with a mysterious video package. It then cuts out, and goes back to the Divas of Doom video. When Beth got distracted by Alicia, Kelly was able to roll Beth up with an inside cradle, and the Divas of Doom chased Alicia, Eve, and Kelly out of the ring.
Winners: Kelly Kelly and Eve
